The Male is a gray bird with rusty red chest, It has an almost black head and tail. It has black streaks on a white chin! it has a white eye ring. The Female is similar to male, but has a gray head and duller chest.

The junvenile is similar to female, but has speckled chest and brown back.  The
female builds the nest with some help  from the male. They have two broods per year.

The eggs are pale blue and unmarked.

The incubation period is 12-14 days
In 14 to 16 days, the fledgings arrive and mom and dad both feed young.

Food consist of insects, fruit, berries and worms.
