MY FIRST DOLLY © MARY ALICE BOWLES 11/12/02 INTO 11/13/02 MIDNIGHT I honestly thought that I was too old to love a dolly! lol My favorite dolly is spending time at Grannys house! She said she would keep her safe, while my walk thru life I take she has quite a collection you see, her house is love, cookies and all things nice, the smell of cinnamon sugar and apple spice I found my dolly under the Christmas tree all wrapped up in a big red package in nineteen hundred and eighty three! She was the prettiest thing I had ever seen I named her Annabelle Lee I went to Grandmas house for a visit to see my Annabelle Lee snuggled her closely to my chest kissed her softly on the cheek and place her back on the shelf Grandma came through the door with lemon cookies just fresh baked that twinkle in her eye I’d seen for years could soothe all the worlds fears! She said, "Mary let's have a tea party and a little talk, and then maybe if it's not too late, we will go for an evening walk! She went to the pantry and pulled out a package all wrapped in cotton and pretty pink laces she unwrapped the folds layer after layer I couldn't believe my eyes the most beautiful dolly I had ever seen that is, except for my Annabelle Lee, lay in Grandmas arms Mary, I would like for you to meet my first dolly, her name is Rose Marie, she had a birthday this past Christmas Eve, she is barely seventy three! Grandma cuddled that dolly in front of my eyes and kissed her softly on the cheek. She walked across the room and placed Annabelle Lee in my arms and said, "You two are invited to a tea"! My granny, Rose Marie, me and Annabelle Lee had a lovely tea party you see! Granny said, "Now how about that evening walk"? But granny, "don't you think we're a little too old to have a tea party and take two baby dolls for a stroll"? She said, "you never get too old for a stroll with your first dolly," so off to the park we did go! Annabelle Lee and Rose Marie lay gently in the seat of my first baby stroller. As me and grandma walked through the park, all eyes turn to see! a seventy five year old and a sixteen old with two dolly’s out for an outing Grandma held my hand very tightly and whispered in my ear "Annabelle Lee has been waiting for you to come and take her home, you know you can't quit now, for you must see, you will forever be her mommy. |
