DOWNY WOODPECKER
Picoides pubescens
The smallest and most common American woodpecker, the Downy Woodpecker is found throughout most of North America from Alaska to Florida. It lives in a variety of habitats from wilderness forests to urban backyards, and comes readily to bird feeders.

and a small pointed bill.

The difference in the male and female is the
male has a red patch on back of head, female with black patch.

It makes a sound like this
Call note a sharp "pik." Also a harsh rattle or whinning

They Nest in cavity in trees or dead branch.
They don't make any necessary  structure they just build  in cavity.
she has 3 to 8 white eggs

This woodpeckers you see on this page lives at our feeders, so does her mate. They live in my backyard all four seasons. I have never seen where they build their nest
I wish I could.
She is very quiet and tends to let the male eat first. She will even leave her feeding
place and let the male have her spot. She spends a lot of time with me
and is less timid than the male.
