GREEN HERON
                                        WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF GREEN HERONS

                                                       Butorides virescens

       The male is a short stocky heron with a blue-green back  and  a rusty red neck and chest. It has a dark green crest. It has short legs, normally yellow, but trun bright orange during breeding season.

The female is the same as male
The juveniles are similar to adult, with blue-gray back and whit-streaked chest and neck.

Their nest is plaform, the female and male both build the nest. They have two breeds per year.

The eggs are anywhere from 2-to4, light green, unmarked.

The incubation period is 21-25 days, female and male both incubate

Fledgings happen aabout 35-36 days, male and female both feed the young ones

They completely migrate  to South America

They eat fish, insects and aquantic plants
