| Please Meet My Sparrows A hundred sparrows came to eat A hundred sparrows at my feet Why just sparrows, why not songbirds and singers of the night, why can’t they come and visit before the morning light? Then someone said, “to make them go away just don’t feed them”, And then I let the feeders go empty for a day That night while safe in bed, with a full stomach And a roof over my head I could not sleep I had to count sheep I thought about all those little sparrows out there hungry in that little bush Then the next morning I went outside in a very big rush I gave them so much bird seed with my very special touch If the songbirds want to visit, let them, If the singers of the night want to come, let them Let all the birds of the air come and have a meal But in the meantime, those sparrows have to eat They make my life so complete I’m taking care of my sparrows God is taking care of me God said, “He sees every sparrow fall And that’s not all he watches, he watches over everything He watches all"! ©Mary Alice Bowles 9/21/05 |
