The length is about 7.25 inches
it has a large, conical, pale bill

The adult male has a
Rosy-red, triangular breast patch
Black head and upperparts
White underparts
White patches in wing
White spots in black tail
Rosy-red wing linings


The male  in Fall and Winter is duller, browner
Immature male similar to adult male in Fall and Winter but duller

The adult female has
black and white crown stripes
White underparts with extensive streaking
Dark gray upperparts
Yellow to yellowish-orange wing linings
Immature female similar to adult female
Juvenile has buffy breast

Migration Status:Neotropical migrant
It breeds in the woods and will come to backyard feeders,
because that is where I found this little jewel of a bird.

It hatches 3 to 6 eggs
and the length of incubation is about 13 to 14 days

It takes 9 to 12 days to fledge.
It has one to two broods per year.

Their diet is mostly insects and
lesser quantities of fruits , seeds and flowers.
