SCARLET TANAGER
Piranga olivacea
This bird is about 6.25 inches
Pointed, but fairly stout bill
lives in tree tops

The adult male ia a
brilliant scarlet red plumage
it has shiny black wings and tail
His plumage is held in Spring and Summer

The adult female has a yellow underpart
with an olive back
Gray wings and tail with greenish feather edges
Basic and immature plumages similar to female but males often have blacker wings and tails

They like the South in Winter
They breed in woodland areas
they nest in canopies

Nest is an open-cup with clutch size: 3-5
Length of incubation: 13-14 days
Days to fledge: 9-11: they produce one brood per year

They eat insects and fruit with lesser quantities of fruit
