The tufted titmouse is 6'' (15cm). It is gray above and white below. The tufted titmouse lives in mostly decidous woodlands, swampy or moist woodlands, and or in shady trees in city parks. The range of the titmouse is Eastern Nebraska, Southern Michigan, Maine, Texas and Central Florida. The titmouse eats peanuts, and sunflower seeds. The titmouse lays 5-6 brown eggs in a tree. It lives in a tree cavity, which is from a woodpecker stuffed with leaves and moss. It whistle series of 4-8 notes. It sounds like petter-petter. And is repeated over and over. In the Cherokee legends, the titmouse is regarded as a messenger. It also has the reputation of a liar which comes from the legend of wicked witch who put great fear in the people. When the titmouse was misuderstood by the people they cut off her tongue. That is why today the titmouse has such a short tongue. But I don't believe in legends, and me and my Canon thank this little beautiful titmouse for decorating our back yard with her beautiful decor. |
